Yoda, a Green Lantern?!

With the world premier of the new Green Lantern movie, I thought it was best to share some amazing Star Wars/Green Lantern crossover portraits that I found in this site: http://www.elance.com/samples/master-yoda-green-lantern/23746887/#posSlide

According to the website, the portraits are credited to Darren Lim Geers "a recent graduate from Kendall College of Art and Design with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, Digital Illustration. He is inspired by the works of creators like J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Robert E. Howard, Masamune Shirow, Gene Roddenberry, George Lucas and Akira Kurosawa. He holds a passion for artwork, video games and comic books. Darren's overall goal is to become established in the entertainment media industry as a concept artist for video gaming and movie development."

If you've read the "Blackest Night" series you'll get a kick out of other Star Wars/Lantern characters:

So if we mash up the Green Lantern Oath with some Star Wars lines, it would go something like this:

"In brightest day, in blackest night, do or do not, there is no try.
Let those who worship evil’s might, Beware my power... Green Lantern’s lightsaber!"

My Star Wars Birthday Wish...

I'm turning a year older today, and though I may not be as old as Master Yoda, let me borrow his line:

"When 38 years old you reach, look as good you will not, hmmm?"

Kidding aside, I have a planet full of reasons to be thankful for. I thank the good Lord for blessing me with a wonderful family: a beautiful, loving wife, two smart and adorable kids; a job that squeezes out my creative juices and brings food to our table; friends that have been with me through thick and thin.

On my birthday, may the good Lord grant me:

Anakin's great love for his mom and Amidala...
Yoda's wisdom...
Luke's courage...
Han Solo's swagger and confidence...
Chewbacca's strength and loyalty...
Threepio's mastery of languages...
Artoo's technical wizardry...
Princess Leia's diplomatic savvy...
Grand Admiral Thrawn's intelligence...
Boba Fett's focus and durability...

...and may the Forces of good forever prevail over the Dark Side.

Today's Special: Sweet Sugar Belle's Star Wars Cookies!

This was featured in The Official Star Wars Blog and I just had to share it with you loyal carinderia patrons. These scrumptious cookies which deserve a place in a Royal Naboo feast are the handiwork of Texan mom SWEETSUGARBELLE. The Force is strong in her but she prefers to call it "cookie think" ("Everything I see becomes a cookie in my head") . That's like having your Star Wars fill and eating it too!

If you want to see more of her great cookie designs and recipes, check out her blog,
The Sweet Adventures of Sugar Belle
(Thanks Sugar Belle for allowing me to repost and share your photos!)

Hmmmm,  I wonder if I could have my own Mos Eisley Carinderia cookies and goodies:

Boba FITA
SkywalkerFlakes
OreYODA
BiscochoD2
C3Piyaya
MaMon Mothma
Admiral Ackbarquillos
Pan SOLO

Got any other suggestions? :)

Soccer and Star Wars: May the Footie be with You

Toronto FC fans call on Yoda to guide their team to victory  (image from caughtoffside.com)
I'm a football fan and like millions of Filipinos, I'm eagerly anticipating the February 9 match of the Azkals (Philippine Football Team) vs Mongolia at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod. Never has football been this popular in the Philippines, after the underdog Azkals beat defending champs Vietnam 2-0 in their our turf in the recent AFC Suzuki Cup. That historic feat not only allowed the Philippines to secure a semifinals berth for the first time in the Cup, it also merited recognition from Sports Illustrated as one of the top 10 football stories of 2010.

I saw this cool photo on the net and ala Spidey's spider-sense, the Force in my veins tingled and told me to share this immediately with all you Carinderia patrons out there.

The connection between football and Star Wars have seen many incarnations through the years. Last year, in time for the World Cup, Adidas came up with a fantastic commercial starring football stud David Beckham, German legend Franz Beckenbauer, and rapper Snoop Dogg among others, recreating the famous Mos Eisley Carinderia...er Cantina, scene.

One clever scene at 1:38 shows Greedo asking Becks at laserpoint: "So how long till you can play again? Jabba wants to make you an offer to play for his team. He saw you play a long time ago...for a Galaxy far far away..." Touche!

On February 9, May the Force be with the Azkals!
